A Beginner's Guide to Changing Your Wardrobe
Have you ever sat scrolling through Pinterest looking at clothing that you most likely will never purchase? I used to to fill my board "Dream Closet" with all different types of clothes that I never intended on buying or even wearing. Do you dream about changing your entire style but never know were to begin?
How to Create the Perfect Wardrobe |
This is how I did it:
When I was in high school I was a two sport athlete (basketball and lacrosse) for three out of the four years. I attempted to take on three my junior year so I played soccer. I was so tired in the morning that I never took the time to care about how I looked. I honestly wore sweat pants everyday that I could get away with it. I would pair that with one of the T-shirts that I had accumulated from my many years of sports and college campus visits. But, when I got to college, I got sick of dressing the same and finally took a better look at my Pinterest and completely changed my wardrobe. I followed these simple steps.

Here is how you can do it too:
Pick your new overall style
When I went to choose my style my first instinct was the thing I pinned the most, which was nautical and more along the preppy side of things. I love button ups, sweaters and most importantly (the biggest staple to my style) blue and white stripes. So, naturally that's where I started my journey. If you have other tastes and interests there are several other fashion types such as artsy, sporty, and trendy, to name a few. If you are into other types of fashion you can still follow these steps.

Find clothing companies that match your chosen style
I spent a lot of time on Pinterest and already had an idea of places that sold the style I liked. Places like Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, Patagonia and L. L. Bean. But, I also kept searching and I was able to find clothes for all different price ranges. I do not know much about other fashion styles and where you can find those style clothes at but I know a little about one. Some companies that are for those who are into sporty fashion (like my sister) are Under Armour, Nike, and Lululemon, but there is also so much more out there I cannot name them all. Since there are so many clothing companies out there you should be able to find the best clothes for you, you just have to be patient and willing to search high and low for your perfect style.
One Item At A Time
You have to keep one thing in mind. You can not change your style all at once. Changing your entire wardrobe will definitely take some time. I am still working on it. Starting small is the key to this. I began with a sweater and a button up to wear underneath. Then I moved on and kept building. My next big spend was I bought myself a Patagonia pull over. I then paired that with Bean Boots from L. L. Bean and then a Vineyard Vines baseball hat. You can start with a top, pants, or even a new pair of shoes. What ever makes you feel good about yourself. That is something to keep in mind the whole time. Always make sure you stay true to yourself.

Bonus Hint!!
When starting out buy smart. Look for sales and check out second time around sites and stores. This in my opinion is a good step in the right direction to obtaining your ultimate goal of having a closet full of the clothes of your dreams!!!
